Horizontal or Vertical picture?
After you have decided on which layout design you like, take your photo in either the vertical or horizontal position, as shown in the design of your choice.
Get down on their level
By stooping down to eye-level with your child, you can capture a more accurate portrayal of their expressions and features. Don't forget to capture their little hands and feet while they are still so tiny. These pictures will be great reminders of how small they were at one time.
Focus on the subject
For most cameras, holding down the shutter button half-way automatically focuses the shot, but check your camera manual to confirm this step.
Avoid Clutter
This goes for the background and surroundings of the subject as well as clothing. Busy clothing often takes away from your child's face. Newborns lying on a solid colored blanket usually make wonderful pictures. One of the keys to a great picture is keeping the attention on the subject you are trying to capture in the shot, and this is a lot easier when the background is uninteresting.
Use Natural Light
Try turning off your flash. Using your flash can sometimes wash out your child and create unflattering shadows, so try turning off your flash and taking shots outside or near a window where the natural light can give a more natural look for your picture. Your camera is more prone to shake and cause the picture to be blurry when the flash is overridden , so make sure to hold your camera extra steady when attempting this.
Keep Shooting
Take multiple pictures. The more pictures you take, the more chances you have of getting that perfect picture!
